U14 GET TOGETHER 2012

There could have been no more appropriate settings for hosting this year's FIBA Europe U14 Get Together than the city of Braga, Portugal, the European Youth Capital (EYC).

The annual event is a fast track transfer of knowledge around current methodology in Youth basketball coaching and development and it draws participants from FIBA Europe's member Federations.

This year's two-day happening (5-6 October) in Portugal's third largest city attracted a total of 161 coaches from 26 European countries, as well as representatives of National Federations, making it one of the best attended FIBA Europe events of its kind ever.

The Lecturers included Antonio Carrillo (1on1 for beginners & Coordination and development of senses) Antonio San Payo Araujo (Minibasket: Five Golden Rules to teach the game), Rui Alves (Recruiting Talent -Methodological Approach), Jose Maria Buceta (Psychological aspects in training with U14 players & U14 Basketball coach as a group leader) and Michael Schwarz (FIBA Europe Coaching Website).

The exhibition sessions were held in the "Universidade do Minho" Hall in Braga.

"We are pleased to see that all participants have left Portugal with a bag full of updates with regards to current developments in Youth basketball," commented FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson, who was also in attendance and paid tribute to the preparation work carried out by the local organisers and the Portuguese Basketball Federation.

Manuel Fernandes, FIBA Europe  Board Member for Portugal and Organiser of the U14 Get Together extended his thanks for the organisation to the FIBA Europe Youth Commission, the Braga Basketball Association and the Portuguese Basketball Federation.
