In the men’s second league, leader Résidence Walfer has already clinched a spot in the promotion group. The team of head-coach Alexis Kreps will also compete in the cup semi-final against Etzella Ettelbruck after eliminating T71. Résidence has only lost 2 games so far this season and is the clear favorite to promote to the Total League.
Second placed team Telstar Hesper has also booked its ticket to the promotion group. In fact, the team from Hesperange has the same record as Walferdange (13:2) and is playing a very strong season under head-coach Gabor Boros. The club has managed to move up from the third league a few years ago and is now in a situation to move up to the Total League which is a big turnaround over the past years.
Zolwer has also made a big step forward over the last years. With a record of 10 wins and 5 losses, the team of coach Carlo Ferrante has good chances of making the promotion group and everybody knows that in that group, anything is possible with 14 remaining games.
The race for the 4th spot in the promotion is very thrilling. Gréngewald is in the best position against the rivals from Mersch and Kordall. With 24 points each, the greens and Black Star are tied in the standings but Gréngewald, coached by Frank Baum, earns the tie-breaker. Kordall is one point behind both opponents and needs to win the next games in order to put pressure on both opponents.
2 teams will drop down to the Nationale 3 at the end of the season. Right now, the bottom 4 teams are BC Mess, Mondorf, Bascharage and Wiltz. Mess has already won 6 games and is not in any danger of moving down to the third league at this moment. The 3 other teams might fight until the last game-day to stay in the league. Wiltz is currently last in the standings with 1 win on the season, Mondorf and Bascharage both have 3 wins … an open race!
