A new basketball club has been founded in Luxembourg in the town of Echternach. Ildiko Vass, co-founder of the new club and former professional basketball player, has high expectations for her new project.
„Our long term plan is to help basketball in Luxembourg to grow. Right now, we are focusing on kids aged from 4 to 10 years old because we want to teach good fundamentals. In the future, we want to develop groups in other age categories and compete on the highest level. Our main goal is to create chances for players (and coaches) and help them in their development » says Vass who founded the club together with co-founder Ronny Kirsch.
The name of the club is ‘Vass Ildikó Basketball Echternach’, in a short form it would be ‘VIBBALL Echternach’. At this moment, sports is not very present in Echternach, a beautiful town in the EAST of our country. „Echternach is a beautiful city and there has not been a basketball club for a very long time. Ronny Kirsch and myself, we thought it would be the ideal place to start here and create chances for kids to learn and enjoy this beautiful sport. 3 extra coaches (Hein Gerd Triemstra, Zorica Mitov, Jovana Jaksic) are helping the club almost daily to develop this club. I am very thankful for their help and experience that they bring in every day. »
In fact, it is not the first time Ildiko Vass has created a club. „12 years ago, I founded a Basektball club in my home town Sepsiszentgyörgy, Romania (Bball6 – Sepsi), that created a lot of chances for young players. It was very succesful with many players playing in the National team of Romania. I am also proud of the other players who reached already a lot in life also because of the help and experience they got from the “Bball6“ club. Right now, I am looking forwad to seeing the potential in Luxembourgish basketball, I thought it would be great to create chances for kids and help Luxembourgish basketball develop. »
With the number of teams and clubs reducing year after year, this new club is definitely a positive sign for Basketball in our country.
